Markets Close Slightly Higher After Busy Day

So, the stock market ended Thursday a little up. Nothing major, but still a positive close. The S&P 500 went up around 0.4%, the Dow added 0.3%, and the Nasdaq gained about the same — 0.4%.

One of the main reasons? A court ruling that tossed out some of Trump’s old tariffs. That kind of shook things up a bit.

Basically, the court said Trump didn’t have the right to slap on those extra tariffs the way he did. It ruled that only Congress can make those kinds of trade decisions.

This move got a lot of attention, especially globally. Some investors felt like this might ease up some trade tension — especially in places like Asia — so markets overseas saw a bit of a bounce, too.

Now, a big chunk of the buzz also came from Nvidia. The company posted its Q1 earnings, and honestly, they were huge. Revenue hit $44 billion, which is 69% more than last year.

Even though they took a $4.5 billion hit from U.S. chip export restrictions to China, they still crushed expectations. The stock jumped more than 5% before the market even opened.

But they did mention something important — they’re expecting to lose about $8 billion next quarter because they can’t sell their H20 chips in certain markets. Still, investors seemed pretty optimistic.

Tesla also made a little noise. Elon Musk said he’s stepping down from his role in the Department of Government Efficiency to focus more on Tesla and his other ventures.

After that news, Tesla stock rose over 2%. Seems like people liked the idea of Musk being all-in on his companies again.

On the other hand, Salesforce beat earnings expectations with good numbers — around $9.8 billion in revenue and a solid profit. But weirdly, the stock dropped over 7%.

Analysts said the outlook was good, especially with AI products doing well, but maybe people were expecting more? That drop actually kept the Dow from going up even more.

All in all, it felt like one of those days where a lot happened, but the market didn’t swing too hard in either direction. Some good news, a few surprises — and investors seemed cautiously happy.

Of course, there's still a lot hanging in the air. Like whether the government might try to bring back new tariffs using a different law. So yeah, it’s not all clear skies just yet.
