A tragic incident has shaken Bhopal as the teenage daughter of a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer was found hanging at the family’s government residence in the Char Imli area on Wednesday, prompting a full police investigation.

The teenager, reported to be 16–17 years old and studying in school, was discovered inside her room at the residence of IPS officer Sanjeev Kanchan, who is currently posted as Assistant Inspector General (AIG) at the Police Headquarters (PHQ). Her mother, Renuka Kanchan, is serving as a senior official as well.

Family members found her and rushed her for medical assistance, but she was declared dead by doctors on arrival. Police were informed shortly after.

Investigation Underway — Phone and Digital Data Being Examined

Habibganj police have registered a case following the discovery, and investigators are now examining the teenager’s mobile phone and digital activity to uncover any clues about the events leading up to the tragic incident.

So far, police say no suicide note has been recovered from the spot, and the motive or circumstances behind her taking such an extreme step remain unclear. Police sources told reporters that analysis of phone messages, call logs and social media activity could help shed light on her state of mind and any external factors that may have contributed.

Family in Focus, But Cause Still Unknown

The family of the teenager is cooperating with the police, and statements are being recorded. Inspectors on the case have said that at this stage, there’s no definitive explanation for why she took her own life, and authorities are considering all possible angles.

The fact that this took place at the residence of a serving IPS officer has drawn attention both locally and beyond, with residents and social media users expressing shock over the sudden loss of a young life in a police family home.

Police emphasised that all evidence, including digital data, will be scrutinised as part of the probe, and that the post‑mortem and forensic reports will be crucial in understanding the cause and timing of death.

Habibganj Police Station officers confirmed the case has been registered and stated that the investigation is ongoing. While details have been limited due to the sensitive nature of the situation involving a minor, authorities have assured that thorough procedures are being followed.

Officials are also drawing parallels to other serious investigations in the region that have captured public attention recently, underlining the importance of careful forensic work and evidence analysis in unexplained deaths.
