Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Limited (TPEVCSL), a subsidiary of the Tata Power Group, and Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) have recently entered into a groundbreaking agreement aimed at revolutionizing the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in India. The collaboration entails the establishment of over 500 fast and ultra-fast EV charging points across the country, strategically positioned in major cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune, and Kochi. Moreover, these charging stations will be strategically located along key highways, including the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Salem-Kochi Highway, Guntur-Chennai Highway, and the Golden Quadrilateral, thereby creating a comprehensive and accessible network.

This joint initiative is a significant step towards fostering sustainable and widespread adoption of electric mobility in India. Tata Power, boasting an impressive market share of nearly 60 per cent in the EV charging sector, is set to leverage its expertise and presence in 420 cities to establish these charging points. The ambitious project is not only poised to enhance the convenience of EV users in urban centres but also contribute to the development of robust charging infrastructure along critical transportation corridors.

The partnership with IOCL, a major player in the energy sector, is expected to harness the extensive retail network of the oil giant. The plan involves integrating fast and superfast charging points into multiple IOCL retail outlets, thereby enhancing accessibility and inclusivity for a sustainable electric mobility future. Virendra Goyal, Head of Business Development for EV Charging at Tata Power, emphasized the importance of leveraging IOCL's widespread presence to create a network that caters to the evolving needs of electric vehicle users.

In a bid to offer a seamless experience to EV users, Tata Power has introduced the 'Tata Power EZ Charge' app, which enables users to conveniently locate and book charging points. Additionally, Indian Oil's 'e-Charge' mobile app further enhances the user experience by providing a platform for locating and reserving charging facilities at their convenience. This dual advantage is expected to streamline the charging process and contribute to the overall efficiency of the electric vehicle ecosystem.

The ambitious plans of Indian Oil are reflected in their vision to deploy 10,000 EV charging stations by 2024, thereby transforming their retail network into complete energy solutions outlets. Currently boasting over 6,000 EV charging stations, the company aims to expand its reach and play a pivotal role in addressing the evolving landscape of electric mobility. Saumitra Shrivastava, Executive Director (Retail-N&E) at Indian Oil, highlighted the transformative shift in the energy sector and acknowledged the strategic partnership with Tata Power as a key element in responding to this paradigm shift.

The financial markets have also responded positively to this significant collaboration, with Tata Power shares witnessing a notable rise of 2.83 per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) following the announcement. In contrast, Indian Oil's stock experienced a marginal dip of 1 per cent to Rs 117.65. The market's response underscores the confidence and optimism surrounding this collaborative effort and its potential to reshape the future of electric mobility in India.

In summary, the partnership between Tata Power and Indian Oil marks a pioneering initiative that holds the promise of transforming India's EV charging landscape. With a focus on creating a robust infrastructure network, fostering accessibility, and embracing sustainable mobility solutions, this collaboration is a testament to the commitment of both companies towards shaping a greener and more efficient future for transportation in the country.
