Tesla's global supply chain is seeing a significant shift, with several Tata Group companies emerging as key suppliers for the automaker. Tata AutoComp, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata Technologies, and Tata Electronics have reportedly secured agreements to provide critical components for Tesla, such as castings, forgings, electronics, and fabrication items. This move comes as Tesla plans to expand its operations in India, a market where it sees vast potential.

According to sources close to the matter, Tesla's senior global procurement team has been in discussions with suppliers, focusing on components needed for Tesla's international operations. Tata Group's contribution to Tesla's global supply chain is substantial, with Indian companies expected to supply a wide array of parts, including wiring harnesses, electric motors, gearboxes, and electric powertrains.

The Tata Group’s involvement has already contributed to nearly $2 billion worth of supplies in FY24, supporting Tesla’s operations worldwide. As Tesla sets its sights on local production in India, these Tata companies are well-positioned to play a larger role in the automaker's future operations in the country.

Tesla is reportedly also looking at relocating component manufacturing out of China and Taiwan for vehicles sold outside China, with plans to start the transition as early as next year. This move is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its supply chain ecosystem and reduce its reliance on these regions.

In addition to expanding supplier partnerships, Tesla is in talks with various Indian states, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Telangana, to establish a manufacturing base in the country. These discussions could not only solidify Tesla’s presence in India but also unlock new opportunities for local suppliers to engage with the electric vehicle giant.

While the exact details of Tesla’s India plans remain under wraps, the growing role of Indian companies in the supply chain is expected to lead to significant economic benefits for the region. As Tesla moves closer to establishing a manufacturing presence, companies like Tata Group are poised to play a pivotal role in the company’s success in India.
