Praj Industries Limited witnessed a remarkable surge in its stock price, soaring by 15 percent and reaching a 52-week high of Rs 598 on September 11, 2023. This sudden uptick in stock value was largely fueled by the launch of the Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA) on the sidelines of the G20 Summit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Praj Industries stands to benefit significantly from this development as it currently commands an impressive market share of 60-65 per cent in the development of ethanol plants, which are instrumental in the production of biofuels. The GBA's primary objective is to expedite the global transition to sustainable biofuels and thereby decrease the world's reliance on conventional fossil fuels. Biofuels, in this context, refer to renewable energy fuels derived from biomass sources such as crop stubble, plant waste, and municipal solid waste.

India's government has repeatedly emphasized its goal of achieving a 20 per cent ethanol blending program by the year 2025. According to JM Financial, a prominent broking firm, the country's year-to-date ethanol blending rate has already reached an impressive 11.5 per cent, marking a record high. Furthermore, JM Financial predicts that, with the existing capacity, India has the potential to achieve a 15 per cent ethanol blending rate over the next couple of years.

Ethanol blended motor fuel, a key component of biofuel production, contains ethyl alcohol derived from agricultural products and is blended exclusively with gasoline. Following the launch of the GBA and the surge in interest in biofuels, stocks related to this sector experienced notable gains. Major sugar companies like EID-Parry, Balrampur Chini, and Dhampur Sugar Mills observed significant increases, with their stock prices rising by 3-4 per cent during the current trading session.

This surge in Praj Industries' stock price reflects the growing recognition of the critical role it plays in the development and expansion of ethanol plants, a crucial component in the production of sustainable biofuels. As nations worldwide intensify their efforts to reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuels and promote the use of renewable energy sources, Praj Industries appears well-positioned to capitalize on the increasing demand for biofuels and contribute to a more sustainable and eco-friendly energy landscape.

The launch of the Global Biofuel Alliance, with its mission to accelerate the adoption of biofuels, aligns with global initiatives to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As governments and industries increasingly prioritize sustainable energy solutions, Praj Industries' expertise and market leadership in ethanol plant development make it a prominent player in the global transition towards cleaner and greener energy alternatives.
