Larsen & Toubro (L&T), one of India’s leading multinational firms, has officially announced that its board of directors has approved a significant borrowing proposal totaling Rs 12,000 crore. This substantial financial maneuver is designed to enhance the company’s liquidity and support its long-term growth strategies across various sectors, including infrastructure, technology, and engineering. The company has outlined that the borrowings may be utilized through multiple instruments, including external commercial borrowings, term loans, and non-convertible debentures, thus providing L&T with the flexibility to optimize its financial structure.

In conjunction with the borrowing approval, the board made notable changes in the company's leadership. Subramanian Sarma, who currently serves as the Whole-time Director & President of the Energy sector, has been appointed as the Deputy Managing Director & President of the Company. This new role will commence on April 2, 2025, and will continue until February 3, 2028. Sarma’s extensive experience and leadership in the energy domain are expected to be instrumental as L&T expands its footprint in renewable energy and other emerging sectors.

Moreover, the board has confirmed the re-appointment of S. V. Desai as Whole-time Director of L&T, effective from July 11, 2025, through July 4, 2030. Desai’s re-appointment underscores the board’s confidence in his leadership capabilities, particularly in driving the company’s strategic objectives and operational excellence.

Additionally, T. Madhava Das has also been re-appointed as Whole-time Director for a five-year term starting from July 11, 2025. His role will be pivotal in steering the company’s projects and ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards, which have always been a hallmark of L&T's operations.

These strategic decisions highlight L&T’s commitment to not only fortifying its financial position but also ensuring strong leadership continuity as it navigates the complexities of the current economic landscape. As the company embarks on this new chapter, stakeholders and investors alike are poised to see the impact of these changes on L&T’s performance and market positioning in the coming years.
