On Thursday, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website and app experienced a major outage, leaving thousands of users unable to book train tickets.

The disruption was significant, as IRCTC’s platform is widely used by millions of passengers across India for railway ticket bookings.

Frustrated travelers took to social media to report the issue, with many sharing screenshots of error messages, including one that stated: “Unable to perform action due to maintenance activity.” As of now, IRCTC has not provided any details regarding the cause of the outage or when the platform will be restored.

During the outage, Downdetector, a popular service monitoring platform, recorded more than 2,000 complaints from users.

The lack of communication from IRCTC added to the frustration, with passengers expressing concerns about the ongoing disruption.

One frequent traveler posted on social media, “This outage is highly inconvenient. I hope IRCTC resolves it soon and ensures it doesn’t happen again.”

This incident is not the first time IRCTC has faced technical difficulties, which has led to growing discussions about the reliability of India's critical online services.

Outages like these underscore the need for better infrastructure to handle the increasing digital demands of the country’s vast and diverse population.
