Infosys, India's second-largest IT services company, witnessed a significant 5% surge in its ADR (American Depository Receipt) shares, defying the headwinds of a weaker performance in the third quarter.

The company reported consolidated revenue for the quarter at Rs 38,821 crore, reflecting a modest 1.3% YoY increase, slightly edging past analyst estimates pegged at Rs 38,630 crore.

This slight beat, however, comes against the backdrop of Infosys grappling with a challenging demand environment, leading to a revision in its growth guidance for the current financial year, marking the third consecutive adjustment.

In light of the persistent weak demand conditions, Infosys has revised its growth outlook for FY24.

The adjusted guidance now anticipates revenue growth in the range of 1.5-2% in constant currency terms, compared to the previous guidance of 1.0-2.5%.

This adjustment underscores the dynamic and evolving nature of the market, with Infosys adapting its strategies to navigate the complexities of the current business environment.

Despite a 7.3% YoY decline in net profit, amounting to Rs 6,106 crore for the third quarter of FY24, Infosys ADR shares exhibited resilience and optimism on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

As of 8.25 pm IST, the stock traded up 4.61% at $18.93 per share, suggesting a positive sentiment that might translate into a similar reaction in the domestic market when it opens on January 11.

The dip in net profit was below the estimated Rs 6,244 crore, as per Moneycontrol's poll, underscoring the challenges faced by Infosys in maintaining profitability amidst the current market dynamics.

Despite this, the positive market response on the NYSE signals a potential recognition of Infosys' long-term strategic initiatives and resilience in navigating market uncertainties.

The operating margin, indicated by EBIT margin, witnessed a 70 bps decline to 20.5%, primarily influenced by factors such as furloughs and salary hikes.

However, Infosys has maintained its operating margin guidance in the range of 20-22%, underscoring its commitment to managing operational efficiency despite short-term challenges.

Salil Parekh, CEO and MD of Infosys, commented on the company's Q3 performance, highlighting its resilience in the face of challenges.

He emphasized the strength of large deal wins, amounting to $3.2 billion, with 71% representing net new acquisitions.

Parekh highlighted the relevance and robustness of Infosys' diverse portfolio, spanning generative AI, digital and cloud solutions, as well as offerings focused on cost efficiency and automation.

This strategic positioning positions Infosys for long-term growth and adaptability in an ever-evolving technological landscape.
