Blue Dart Express, a prominent player in the logistics sector, witnessed a 2.3 per cent surge in its share price during the early trading hours on December 11. This uptick followed a strategic move by the company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Blue Dart Aviation, which garnered approval from its board of directors to acquire two leased aircraft from DHL Aviation (Netherlands) B.V., a fellow subsidiary, for a substantial sum of Rs 40 crore.
As the clock struck 9:29 am, the stock of Blue Dart Express was quoting at Rs 7,562.10 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), reflecting a notable increase of Rs 176.60 or 2.39 per cent. The decision to acquire these aircraft was disclosed by the company through an official statement to the media. Blue Dart Aviation Ltd. (BOAL), the wholly-owned subsidiary responsible for the purchase, will be acquiring the aircraft, currently under lease, as part of this strategic move.
This development comes in the wake of Blue Dart Express's recent announcement in November regarding its ambitious plans for nationwide expansion. The company unveiled plans to inaugurate 40 new franchisees and company-owned retail outlets, signalling its commitment to strengthening its presence across the country.
Moreover, the logistics giant had earlier made headlines with its decision, announced in a regulatory filing on September 30, to implement a general price increase effective January 2024. This price adjustment, set at 9.6 per cent in comparison to 2023, is contingent on the shipping profile and aims to ensure sustained growth and competitiveness in the dynamic market.
In the financial quarter ending September 2023, Blue Dart Express reported a 22.5 per cent decline in net profit, amounting to Rs 71.29 crore. Despite this, the company remains a key player in the express air, integrated transportation, and distribution segments, offering comprehensive delivery services for consignments across the vast expanse of India.
Examining the stock's performance over the past year, Blue Dart Express touched a 52-week high of Rs 7,934 on January 2, 2023, showcasing the company's ability to attain significant valuation milestones. In contrast, the stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 5,633 on May 8, 2023, reflecting the inherent volatility in the market during the specified period.
As of the latest available data, the stock is currently trading 4.69 per cent below its 52-week high, indicating a slight pullback, while maintaining a robust position by standing 34.25 per cent above its 52-week low. This nuanced performance underscores the dynamic nature of the logistics industry and the strategic decisions made by Blue Dart Express to navigate and thrive in this competitive landscape.
