Kolkata-based Ambuja Neotia Group is making a significant push into healthcare with a Rs 2,000 crore investment to expand its operations in East India. The conglomerate plans to launch seven new hospitals over the next three to four years, with a focus on multi-specialty healthcare and mother-childcare facilities. This expansion will see its bed capacity rise from 500 to over 2,000, with a 60:40 split between the two healthcare segments.

The expansion is being funded through a combination of internal accruals and debt, with no immediate plans for equity fundraising. However, the company has left the door open for future capital infusion if a strategic acquisition opportunity arises. Parthiv Neotia, Executive Director of Ambuja Neotia Healthcare Venture, highlighted the region’s under-served market and the potential of East India’s 35-crore-strong population as a growth driver for the company.

The group currently operates three hospitals, including a 250-bed multi-specialty facility in Siliguri, and two mother-childcare centers in Kolkata. The new projects will include an 1,100-bed multi-specialty hospital in Kolkata, pediatric units in Guwahati and Kolkata, and additional facilities in cities such as Raipur and Durgapur. The company is also exploring an asset-light model for three of its new projects, wherein landowners will fund civil structures, and Ambuja Neotia will lease them for 30 years.

Neotia also emphasized that while East India has attracted attention from national chains like Manipal and Narayana Health, local players remain dominant, and the group plans to lead the region’s mother-childcare sector. The company sees opportunity in catering to patients from neighboring states and positioning Kolkata as a hub for advanced medical care.

"Our goal is to redefine healthcare infrastructure in East India, with a structured rollout and a sharp focus on operational efficiency," Neotia added.
