Adani Green Energy's stock experienced a dip despite the company's announcement of a significant joint venture (JV) with TotalEnergies Renewables Singapore.

The $444 million partnership is aimed at expanding Adani Green's solar power portfolio, yet the news failed to boost investor confidence, leading to a 1.5 percent decline in the stock on September 2 amidst generally weak market conditions.

Over the past year, Adani Green Energy's stock has performed remarkably well, surging by 100 percent and doubling investors' capital, a stark contrast to the Nifty's 29 percent rise during the same period.

However, the recent decline highlights the volatility in the market and possibly some skepticism among investors regarding the new JV.

The agreement with TotalEnergies marks the latest in a series of collaborations between Adani Green and the French oil major.

Previously, the two companies had inked a $300 million deal aimed at building renewable energy capacity in India, where coal remains the predominant source of energy.

The newly announced JV will manage a 1,150 MWac solar power portfolio, comprising both operational assets and those under execution.

The projects will include a mix of merchant-based and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)-based projects. Both Adani Green and TotalEnergies will hold an equal 50 percent stake in the new entity.

The transaction is still under discussion and subject to customary approvals and conditions, as noted by Adani Green in their release. TotalEnergies, through its affiliate entities, already holds a nearly 20 percent stake in Adani Green Energy.

In its most recent quarterly results, Adani Green Energy reported a 95 percent jump in consolidated net profit, reaching Rs 629 crore, compared to Rs 323 crore in the same period the previous year.

This impressive performance has caught the attention of analysts

As of 9:59 am on September 2, Adani Green Energy shares were trading 1.3 percent lower at Rs 1,920.10 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

Despite this dip, the stock has gained around 20 percent so far this year, outperforming the Nifty, which has seen returns of 16 percent over the same period.
