Ujjivan Small Finance Bank (SFB) has demonstrated remarkable financial strength and resilience, evident in its stock performance, which surged by more than 4 per cent in early trade on January 4. This positive momentum follows the announcement of a substantial 27 per cent year-on-year increase in its loan book, reaching an impressive Rs 27,791 crores. As of 9:24 am, the Ujjivan Small Finance Bank stock was trading at Rs 59.95 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
Examining the broader financial landscape, the stock's stellar six-month return of 41.97 per cent significantly outpaces the benchmark Bank Nifty index, which posted a more modest 5.31 per cent return during the same period. This divergence underscores the bank's exceptional performance and strategic positioning in the market.
In the third quarter of FY24, I witnessed Ujjivan Small Finance Bank's robust financials, with total deposits experiencing a robust 29 per cent year-on-year growth, reaching an impressive Rs 29,869 crore. Simultaneously, the gross loan book exhibited commendable growth, soaring by 27 per cent YoY to touch Rs 27,791 crore for the quarter. On a sequential basis, both deposits and the gross loan book saw continued expansion, growing by 3 per cent and 5 per cent, respectively.
A closer look at the Current Account Savings Account (CASA) reveals an impressive 24 per cent YoY surge, culminating in Rs 7,549 crore. Moreover, the CASA ratio, a critical indicator of the bank's funding mix, demonstrated resilience. Although it experienced a marginal dip to 25.3 per cent in Q3FY24 from 26.2 per cent in Q3FY23, the ratio improved from the preceding quarter, where it stood at 24.1 per cent in Q2FY24.
In terms of disbursements, the bank recorded a noteworthy 17 per cent YoY increase, amounting to Rs 5,675 crore in December FY24. However, it is noteworthy that there was a marginal 1 per cent decline compared to the previous quarter. This nuanced trend suggests a dynamic lending environment and underscores the bank's ability to adapt to evolving market conditions.
The overall performance of Ujjivan Small Finance Bank in Q3FY24 indicates not only financial strength but also adaptability and strategic insight. The bank's consistent growth in deposits, loan books, and CASA, despite slight variations, positions it favourably in the competitive financial landscape. Investors and stakeholders are likely to view these results as a testament to the bank's prudent financial management and its ability to navigate challenges while sustaining growth. As the bank continues to chart its course in the coming quarters, market watchers will keenly observe its trajectory and how it aligns with broader economic trends.
