On November 17, SJVN Limited, formerly known as Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, experienced a notable surge in its stock, rising more than 2 percent following the signing of a significant Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). At 11:21 am, the SJVN stock was trading at Rs 76.24 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). This surge in stock value is particularly significant in light of the company's impressive performance, delivering a remarkable return of 103 percent over the last six months, a stark contrast to the benchmark Nifty50 index, which yielded a return of 8.71 percent over the same period.
The PPA, signed on November 16, marks a strategic move for SJVN Limited, a government-owned entity engaged in hydroelectric power generation and transmission. The agreement involves a 200-MW grid-connected wind power project with an estimated cost of Rs 1,400 crore. This venture is anticipated to generate 482 million units in the inaugural year post-commissioning, contributing to a cumulative energy generation projection of 12,050 million units over a 25-year span. The targeted completion date for the project is November 2025, slated to be accomplished within 24 months from the effective date of the PPA signing.
The subsidiary responsible for this commendable feat is SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), wholly owned by SJVN Limited. SGEL actively participated in the tariff-based competitive bidding organized by SECI, specifically aiming for the development of 1,200 MW grid-connected wind power projects across India. Securing a robust 200 MW capacity through competitive tariff bidding at Rs 3.24 per unit on a Build Own and Operate (BOO) basis, SGEL is poised to oversee the entire life cycle of the wind project's development.
This new addition substantially boosts SJVN Limited's wind energy portfolio, bringing it to a total capacity of 497.6 MW. Additionally, SGEL has expanded its collaborative efforts by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s Ocean Sun of Norway in October. This strategic alliance focuses on exploring innovative technologies in the Green & Clean Energy Sector, underlining SJVN's commitment to advancing sustainable practices in the industry.
Furthermore, SGEL secured a Letter of Award (LOA) from Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam (RUVNL) for the construction of a 100 MW solar power project at an impressive tariff rate of Rs 2.62 per unit. This solar project, to be developed, owned, and operated (BOO) by SGEL, further reinforces the company's multi-faceted approach to renewable energy ventures.
In summary, SJVN Limited's recent stock surge reflects investor confidence in the company's strategic prowess, underscored by the successful signing of the PPA for the 200-MW wind power project. With a robust portfolio encompassing wind and solar energy projects, SJVN is positioned as a key player in India's evolving energy landscape, aligning with the nation's commitment to sustainable and clean energy solutions.
