Millions of people across the U.S., including folks in Wisconsin, are expected to hit the streets on June 14. The protest, called the “No Kings” movement, is shaping up to be one of the biggest demonstrations yet against President Donald Trump’s second-term plans. More than 100 pro-democracy groups have teamed up for this, and events are set to take place in over 1,500 cities across the country, including Milwaukee.

Why Are People Protesting?

The whole idea behind the No Kings movement is pretty simple — they’re standing up against what they see as authoritarian rule, policies that favor the rich, and the way Trump’s administration has been using military-style displays of power. The protests are also happening on the same day Trump plans to hold a massive military parade for his birthday, which also happens to be Flag Day and the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army.

The organizers believe that while Trump wants to put tanks in the streets and create a big TV-style show of power, real power actually comes from regular people speaking out in cities and towns all over America. They also point out that the military parade will cost taxpayers around $30 million — money they feel could be better spent on programs like Social Security, Medicaid, SNAP, and public schools.

Where Will Protests Happen in Milwaukee?

In Wisconsin alone, more than 50 protests are planned for June 14. People living in Milwaukee and nearby areas will have several locations to choose from if they want to join the demonstration. Here’s a quick rundown:

  • Milwaukee (Cathedral Square Park): Noon to 2 p.m. — expected to be the biggest protest in the area.

  • Shorewood (Ciel Senior Living): 2 to 4 p.m.

  • Greenfield (South 76th St. & West Layton Ave.): 10 to 11 a.m.

  • Brookfield (Private location — RSVP required): 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Waukesha (321 Wisconsin Ave.): 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Anyone interested can find the full list of locations and times on the protest’s official website.

Why No Protest in Washington, D.C.?

Interestingly, even though Trump’s military parade will take place in Washington, D.C., the No Kings organizers decided not to hold a protest there. Their goal is to shift attention away from the parade itself and focus it on the widespread opposition happening all across the country. They believe this will send a stronger message — that America’s strength lies in its people, not in tanks rolling down the streets of D.C.

Still, there will be a major march and rally in Philadelphia, which isn’t too far from Washington.

A Nonviolent Approach

Organizers have stressed that all protests will stay peaceful, and community safety is a top priority. With tensions already high — especially after recent protests in Los Angeles related to immigration raids and the National Guard being deployed — the No Kings movement is doing everything it can to keep things calm while still sending a loud, clear message.
