Significant Milestone

This move is significant for several reasons:

  • Escape from Tarkov has been playable in various beta/early access states since around 2016/2017; version 1.0 marks the official “full” launch

  • With this launch, the game will also appear on Steam for the first time.

  • The full release signals that Battlestate Games believes the game is stable and complete enough to call it version 1.0 — though naturally updates will continue.

What Players Should Expect

According to available reports:

  • A story campaign with multiple endings is expected to be included in version 1.0.

  • PC system requirements, editions (Standard, Left Behind, etc), and Steam placement have been teased.

  • A large “wipe” or reset is often associated with such major version bumps in games of this type; while not all details are confirmed, players should keep an eye on announcements about progression and economy changes.

  • Twitch Drops and special launch‑period rewards will be part of the rollout.

Important Considerations & Community Concerns

While many players are excited, there are noteworthy caveats:

  • Even existing players who purchased the game via the original launcher will need to purchase a version on Steam to play via Steam. Your previous progress will still be linkable, but it’s not a free upgrade.

  • Some members of the community have expressed frustration about this, citing the long history of the game and the many years paid in.

  • Given the game’s complexity and hardcore reputation (you can lose gear when you die, extraction mechanics, etc), new players should be prepared for a steep learning curve even in version 1.0.

Why It Matters

Extraction‑shooter games (where you go into a raid, loot, survive, and extract) have grown increasingly popular. Escape from Tarkov was one of the early and most influential entries in that niche. With version 1.0, the game has the chance to reach a broader audience (via Steam) and solidify its legacy.
