Yes Bank experienced a notable surge of 7% on January 1, propelling its stock closer to the pinnacle of its 52-week high at Rs 23.05. This upward trajectory was catalyzed by the private lender's announcement of receiving a substantial infusion of Rs 150 crore from a singular trust, specifically in the security receipts portfolio following the sale of its NPA portfolio. This injection of funds has garnered renewed interest from investors, possibly contributing to the stock's positive momentum in the short term.
The revelation about the funds influx was communicated by Yes Bank to the exchanges on December 31. The disclosure highlighted the linkage to the prior announcement regarding the NPA portfolio sale to JC Flowers ARC on December 17, 2022. In its official statement, Yes Bank articulated, "The Bank would like to inform you that it has received Rs 150 crore from a single trust in the security receipts portfolio." The amount, exceeding the underlying carrying value of the trust, triggered the mandatory disclosure under Regulation 30 of the Listing Regulations, given its significance relative to the prescribed materiality threshold.
In the aftermath of this disclosure, the Yes Bank stock witnessed a robust rally, propelling its total market capitalization to nearly Rs 66,000 crore. By 1:20 pm, the stock had slightly retreated from its peak but still traded 4.6% higher at Rs 22.45 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). This was a notable uptick from its settlement at Rs 21.46 in the preceding trading session on Friday.
Examining the broader trend, Yes Bank's shares have exhibited a substantial uptrend, surging by an impressive 63% from its 52-week low of Rs 14.10 recorded on October 23, 2023. Over the past six months, the stock has demonstrated resilience, rallying by 37%. This performance stands in stark contrast to the benchmark Nifty 50, which experienced a comparatively modest rise of 12.50% during the same period. The confluence of factors, including the recent fund's infusion and positive market sentiment, may contribute to sustaining the favourable trajectory of Yes Bank's stock in the near term.
