Torrent Power's stock has experienced a significant boost, rising over 8% to reach a 52-week high of ₹1,959.20 after the company secured a major energy storage project in Maharashtra.
The surge in share price reflects investor optimism following the receipt of a Letter of Intent (LoI) from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Limited (MSEDCL).
As of 14:13 PM, Torrent Power shares were trading at ₹1,930.00, an increase of ₹150.05 or 8.43% on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
This remarkable uptick comes in the wake of the company's announcement regarding its successful bid for a 1,500 MW pumped hydro storage project.
In an official release, Torrent Power confirmed its status as the successful bidder, stating that it had received the LoI from MSEDCL for the procurement of 1,500 MW of energy storage capacity.
The company plans to deliver this capacity from an upcoming pumped hydro storage plant located in Raigad District, Maharashtra.
The agreement, known as the Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Facility Agreement (PHESFA), stipulates that Torrent Power will provide MSEDCL with a contracted capacity of 1,500 MW.
This capacity is designed for scheduled discharges of up to 8 hours daily, with a maximum continuous output of 5 hours per day. MSEDCL will supply the input energy necessary for charging the system.
In addition to this significant project, Torrent Power has also made strides in renewable energy.
On the same day, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat to initiate a 5 GW solar, wind, or solar-wind hybrid project in Dwarka District, Gujarat.
This move underscores Torrent Power's commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio and contributing to sustainable energy solutions in the region.
With these developments, Torrent Power is positioning itself as a key player in the renewable energy landscape, aiming to enhance its capabilities in energy storage and generation.
Investors and analysts alike will be closely watching the company's progress as it embarks on these ambitious projects.
